Born on 28 December 1963 in Shanghai. Became 4-Dan in 1982 (the entry level to the professional ranks in China), and was promoted to 5-Dan the same year. Reached 6-Dan in 1984 and 7-Dan in 1985, the year she turned professional. Promoted to 8-Dan in 1986 and 9-Dan in 1988.
